Westfield Cares #2
In the face of the global COVID-19 outbreak, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has enacted a series of community and philanthropic actions, dedicating our resources, assets and connections to address the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in the communities in which we operate.
Working on Behalf of Vulnerable Communities
In addition to providing urgent food and daily necessities to those most in need across the communities we serve in the United States, our teams are working hand-in-hand with local charitable organisation and NGOs to ensure that longer-term health, economic, and social support can be provided as well.
For example, on New York’s Long Island, we have facilitated the purchase of laptops for the Family Service League (FSL) and its Diagnostic, Assessment and Stabilization Hub (DASH) programme enabling social workers and nurses to reach local residents urgently in need of mental health services during the crisis’ stay at home orders.
In the New York region, we are working to assist the hard-hit Queens community by supporting DSTQUAC’s efforts to establish an Emergency Response Team, conduct wellness checks on vulnerable individuals, make grocery runs, cook dinners for quarantined seniors, and donate supplies to healthcare professionals and first responders. Our team is also making donations to Liberated to Love to assist victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence (incidents of which have been increasing during the COVID-19 crisis); as well as working with the Rosedale Jets Football Association to support youth development services which have become even more necessary while kids are home from school during the pandemic.
In Chicago, our teams have made monetary contributions to Little Black Pearl in order to provide social and development assistance to local urban youth during the COVID pandemic and to Center on Halstead to provide services to local at-risk and homeless youth during the crisis.
In the Los Angeles region, our teams have been aiding the Miguel Contreras Foundation reach out to labour workers who have been furloughed as a result of the economic effects of the pandemic; giving financial assistance to the PATH Homeless Initiative on behalf of those who now find themselves unsheltered during the COVID-19 outbreak; as well as providing monetary donations to support ongoing community outreach and COVID-19 programmes administered by Mid Valley YMCA, Brotherhood Crusade, LA Gay and Lesbian Center, LA Family Housing, and Culver City Education Foundation.
In San Francisco, we are donating sanitation supplies to Miracle Messages to aid in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 within the homeless population; providing essential items such as socks, clothing and toiletries to YWAM for the benefit of the city’s unsheltered; and offering monetary donations to the Shanti Project to deliver food and pick up medication for at-risk populations under quarantine.
In San Diego, our teams are working with Paving Greater Futures, an organisation that rehabilitates marginalised and at-risk communities; donating to Pastors on Point to support the unsheltered and individuals released from work with no pay during COVID-19; as well as providing funds to the local Asian Business Association to come to the aid of small business owners faced with urgent needs due to the closure of their businesses.
At Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, we are humbled by the amazing work done by these and many other organisations across the US, and in the days and weeks ahead our teams will continue to work hard to support the many individuals and businesses in the communities we serve who are most directly impacted by the effects of COVID-19.
